Brewer Students Welcome Grandparents for Breakfast

This week students at David Brewer Elementary celebrated their grandparents with a breakfast of bagels and donuts, sponsored by the David Brewer PTO. Hundreds of grandparents showed up at the school over a two day period to join their students for breakfast and browsing the school's Book Fair. Many grandparents expressed their thanks and appreciation to members of the PTO for hosting the event.

Mrs. Hiegert Recognized with Champion of Character Award

During a recent student assembly, David Brewer Elementary's Shelly Hiegert was presented with the KScharacter.org's Champion of Character Award. The Champions of Character award provides recognition for individuals that have taken the lead within their school to implement social and emotional character standards. This includes creating a caring school community, engaging families and community members as partners in character-building efforts, fostering self-motivation, and implementing meaningful and challenging academic curriculum that respects all learners, develops character, and helps students succeed. Congratulations to Mrs. Hiegert on receiving this well-deserved honor.

Fifth Graders Learn About Force and Motion

Recently, fifth graders in April Lutz's class at David Brewer have been learning about Force and Motion. To understand the difference between potential energy and kinetic energy, they experimented with rubber bands and the distance they traveled when stretched at different lengths. Students learned that the amount of potential energy an object has is related to its kinetic energy. The more potential energy, the more kinetic energy.

Art Students Explore the Color Wheel

Art students in Dennis Hatfield's classes at David Brewer are starting their year by exploring the color wheel. Classes talked about primary, secondary, and the lesser known tertiary or intermediate colors. Tertiary colors are made by mixing adjacent primary and secondary colors. Students painted their own color wheels which included the tertiary colors yellow-green, blue-green, blue-violet, red-violet, red-orange, and yellow-orange.

Brewer Students Receive Generous Donation

Students and staff at David Brewer Elementary were excited to receive a very generous donation from a local church. Members of Wallula Christian Church in Lansing spent the summer collecting school supplies and playground equipment to help Brewer students get off to a great start this year. Recently, four members of the church were on hand to present their donation during the school's morning assembly. A big thank you to our community for all they do to support the students of Leavenworth!

2016-2017 Arrival and Dismissal Procedures

We are excited to get our school year started, and we wanted to give our school families information about our procedures for arrival and dismissal. We ask that all families respect the plans in place and be patient as new families learn the ropes! Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and for understanding that the purpose is first and foremost the SAFETY of our students. There is one way of arrival and four methods of dismissal to serve all students safely. Returning parents, procedures for the most part are the same except for a few procedural changes in the car rider lane.
