Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year!
I'm excited to start another year and can't wait to work with all of you. This is my fifth school year in Leavenworth as the speech-language pathologist at David Brewer Elementary. In my classroom, we target any skill deficits a child may have in their ability to successfully communicate. This can range from articulation disorders (difficulty being understood because speech sounds are being produced incorrectly) to stuttering to language disorders (their ability to understand AND create grammatical utterances). I work with children of all ages here - from preschool to fifth grade - and I'm always available to answer any questions you may have about your child (whether I work directly with them or not). Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions or concerns.
If I work with your students directly, I'll be in touch throughout this school year to talk about progress and to schedule our annual meetings to update goals and to discuss your child's current communication strengths and weaknesses. You'll also receive quarterly updates along with your student's grade cards.
Kindergarten parents, we conduct Kindergarten Speech/Language Screenings in October-November to ensure your child's communication skills are developing typically. Communication is so important as it affects all aspects of a person's life, including their ability to learn and understand, write grammatical sentences, participate in conversation and form relationships with peers and adults, speak clearly and confidently, etc. You'll hear from us regarding how they did in December-January. Feel free to contact me earlier in the year if you have specific concerns!
